"If you are interested in the Canadian Rockies, and these parks in particular, because you want to be outside, on the trails, in a boat, this is the best overall guide I could find. There are other guides that focus in on detailed specifics of 200+ trails, and the Moon guide will focus more on where to stay and what to eat. For the hiker and backpacker, this has much more information than Moon, with just enough detail on towns and facilities to get you from place to place."

Lonely Planet Banff Jasper and Glacier National Parks Travel Guide eBook Lonely Planet Brendan Sainsbury Michael Grosberg Reviews

  • If you are interested in the Canadian Rockies, and these parks in particular, because you want to be outside, on the trails, in a boat, this is the best overall guide I could find. There are other guides that focus in on detailed specifics of 200+ trails, and the Moon guide will focus more on where to stay and what to eat. For the hiker and backpacker, this has much more information than Moon, with just enough detail on towns and facilities to get you from place to place.
  • This is exactly the vacation that we took, and we read just about every page of this book. Info is accurate to a tee! If I was going to ask for anything more it would be to have a larger (perhaps fold out?) Map of each park instead of maps of sections of each park. But we ended up getting those kinds of maps at ranger stations so it didn't matter in the end.
  • Given the popularity of these parks, I was surprised to find little on the internet about them, especially Banff. Despite doing a lot of research on the internet, this book added tremendously to our trip to Banff Park. Well organized, thoughtful, packed with useful tips, and accurate even though it's a bit dated now.
  • I used this book for my recent trip to Banff and Jasper. I originally got a book for all the national parks, but it didn't have enough detail. This was much better. Lots of little details about hikes and surrounding area. I kept it with me the entire trip. The maps were pretty good and accurate. I was able to use it for Banff, Jasper and even Yoho, as it included surrounding areas. Glad I bought this book and returned the other.
  • This is a fantastic book if you're planning a trip to any of these parks! I went to Glacier without this book, and wish I had it. I bought this book because I'm planning a trip to Banff next. It's small, so perfect for travelling, but it still packs a ton of information. It was everything from lodging/camping and their prices, food and where to find it, hikes and their difficulty/length/altitude, to maps of the entire park and where you should go for specific activites, rentals, or to see particular wildlife. I can't wait to put this book to use in Banff next year! Would highly recommend.
  • The pictures are beautiful and there are a lot of details - if you're a hiker. I didn't realize this book was geared so much towards hiking. We were able to use it for non-hiking activities, but probably only 25% of the book is geared towards non-hikers.
  • I am going to Banff/Jasper/Yoho/Kootenay/Glacier/Glacier Canada/Revelstoke in June for a solid month. While I can't attest that this book is accurate (since I haven't made it to there, yet), it has helped me plan out my itinerary to the max. This book includes local restaurants, variations of tours and simple itineraries depending on if you want your trip to vary from sightseeing to backcountry hiking to be a little more hardcore by cycling/climbing.

I can't wait to see this book come alive before my eyes in June!
  • I expected notes on whether dogs were allowed on trails. Instead, there is only a few pages of decent hiking with dogs advice. I understand that the rules of trails are subject to change, but this was 50% of why I bought the book. Otherwise, its maps and write-ups are wonderful! I bought a second copy and gave it to a friend.
