• I received A.W. Tozer’s “How to Be Filled with the Holy Spirit” from Moody Publishers.
  
  This book holds another poignant message which challenges the Christian to attend another meditative self-review of his, or her, innermost values, and desires, so that he, or she, may realize the degree of importance to which he, or she, holds the personal relationship to, and with, God. In the first chapter, entitled, “Who is the Holy Spirit?”, Tozer begins by first distinguishing the difference between the natural world and the spirit world.
  
  Then, in chapter two (“The Promise of the Father”), Tozer provides a brief, but constructive, introduction to the Holy Spirit as he describes His origin, role, and purpose, as a member of the Holy Trinity (or, Godhead) and as God in the Christian’s life. Tozer is clear in his description of the Holy Spirit even as he establishes the fact that the Christian must depend totally upon the Holy Spirit in order to effectively live for Jesus Christ.
  
  Next, in the third chapter, entitled, “How to Be Filled with the Holy Spirit”, Tozer explains how the Christian can be filled with the Holy Spirit--- but after he asks seven vital questions
  
  1.) Is the Spirit-filled life for you (pg. 40)?
  2.) Can you believe this part (i.e., to be Spirit-filled) is part of God’s plan (pg. 41)?
  3.) Can you believe the Spirit is loveable (pg. 42)?
  4.) Can you believe this is scriptural (pg. 43)?
  5.) Do you want to be filled (pg. 44)?
  6.) Do you want Him to be Lord of your life (pg. 46)?
  7.) Are you sure you need Him (pg. 48)?
  
  It is after the position of these questions, and some insightful commentary, that Tozer explains how to receive the Holy Spirit by referencing the Holy Bible
  
  1.) Present you Body to Him (Romans 121 - 2).
  2.) Ask to be filled (Luke 119 - 13 and Psalms 28).
  3.) Obey the Holy Spirit (Acts 532).
  4.) Have faith in God (Galatians 32).
  
  Finally, Tozer explains how to cultivate the Spirit’s companionship as he cites the scripture, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed? (Amos 33).” Perhaps Tozer’s statement (on page 56) not only summarizes Chapter 4 (i.e., “How to Cultivate the Spirit’s Companionship”), but it also harmonizes the message of this entire book
  
  “I don’t want to say this, but I think that some of you may not be ready for the message because you are more influenced by the world than you are by the New Testament. I am perfectly certain that I could rake up fifteen boxcar loads of fundamentalist Christians this hour in the city of Chicago who are more influenced in their whole outlook by Hollywood than they are by the Lord Jesus Christ. I am positive that much that passes for the [G]ospel in our day is very little more than a very mild case of orthodox religion grafted onto a heart that is sold out to the world in its pleasures and tastes and ambitions (1952).”
  
  In this final chapter, Tozer also presents six important things which Christians must do in order to be filled with the Holy Spirit after he poses one important question (on page 54)--- “Are you ready for this?”
  
  After this question, Tozer enumerates some of the blessings and benefits of allowing the Holy Spirit to take on His rightful role in the Christian’s life. Then, Tozer lists the six important things which the Christian must either remember, or do, if he, or she, is ready to be filled with the Holy Spirit
  
  1.) The Holy Spirit is a living Person [therefore, the Christian must relate to the Holy Spirit as the Person He is] (pg. 57).
  2.) Be engrossed with Jesus Christ (pg. 58).
  3.) Walk in righteousness (pg. 59).
  4.) Make your thoughts a clean sanctuary (pg. 60).
  5.) Seek to know him in the Word (pg. 61).
  6) Cultivate the art of recognizing the presence of the Spirit (pg. 63).
  
  So, to summarize this book, Tozer is explaining that while a Christian can have sincerely accepted and received the free gift of salvation offered to all by the Self-sacrifice of Jesus Christ, it is also possible for that same Christian to not be filled by the Holy Spirit, and as a result, miss out on a very intimate, life-changing and wholesome experience with the One whom Jesus promised would be our “Comforter” , and the One who would teach us all that we would need to know after Jesus ascended to the Father in Heaven (John 167).
  
  This is another one of Tozer’s works which I have added to my personal library, and I highly recommend that Christians who wish to know how they can live out their purpose read this book. Tozer’s message can help the seeking Christian to understand that the Christian already has a purpose (Isaiah 437)---- the Christian just needs to know God’s plan for his, or her, life so that living out that purpose can be done (Jeremiah 2911 - 13). But, this is done by cultivating an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit.
  
  Tozer’s fearless assessment and rebuke of the modern Church’s seemingly mass abstention from the influence and leadership of the Holy Spirit, and its widely evident conformity to many of the world’s ways and attitudes, further encourages me to take greater critical self-assessment in order to truly understand my personal need for more of the Holy Spirit’s influence and leadership in my life, and I hope this book encourages other Christians to do the same.
• Im a very immature christian, having been lazy in pursuing anything more than a surface relationship with Christ for 40+ years. Lately, that has changed and this book (a few transcribed sermons) has provided even more encouragement.
• It's not a deep, long read. Be aware that this is more of a pamphlet than a book. It's 64 pages and can be ready in about 30 minutes. I was hoping for more substance and depth.
  
  Though there are some excellent points Tozer makes, especially in terms of people being afraid of a Spirit-filled life. It's worth the price you pay for the last 30 pages. It really is.
  
  He doesn't go into gifts or manifestations; Tozer talks about your inner life and how it works, or doesn't work, in tandem with Spirit-filled living. So, in that sense, you'll be glad you got it.
  
  He's plain spoken. The longer I live, and the more books I write, and the more books I read, and the more theologians I encounter, I appreciate plain spoken people ever the more.

• I was recently challenged by a mentor that I was lacking joy and receptivity to the Holy Spirit. I do not have a long history of Holy Spirit centered preaching, so I admit I was a little confused about what the Holy Spirit is and who He is. This book cleared everything up and backed every concept up with scripture. This book is a gem and a quick, compelling read. I may never be the same, and that is a good thing.
• The most powerful source of energy, love, wisdom, sanctification process, connection with God and Heaven there is in this universe is the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost. And He can live inside us if we want Him too and fill us with overwhelming indescribable love mercy and grace that transcends our understanding and results in pure peace, joy and hope. It will be a sad day on earth when the Holy Spirit is removed from the earth with the rapture. Imagine no moral compass on earth at all for 7 years. Being filled with that power, the same power that spoke the universe and us into creation wants to fill us completely to overflowing if only we let Him in.
• Best book ever to get you grappling with what it means to be filled with the Spirit. Tozer lays it all out simply and biblically, with context. I will read this book again and again and pass it on to others as well. I don't take Christianity lightly and I also don't believe everything someone says no matter their position. I dig in for myself and try to find out what God is telling me about Himself. I believe He reveals Himself differently to different people and at different times. As long as you're interested in what He's trying to say to you and what He's trying to reveal about Himself to you at this particular point in your life then you'll be on track. This book reiterates that.
• I chose this rating because I learned something helpful. I was on the brink of this discovery and it confirmed my suspicions about the Holy Spirit. It gave me an extra little nudge to cultivate and befriend this awesome person of the Holy Trinity. I did not view Him as a person before and still thinking about the truth of it. But we do refer to the Holy Spirit as the third person of God. Who would not want to live without this wondrous person.

I've read half of this book and for the first time in my life from purchasing a book I want to return it. She says in the beginning that it is not meant to inspire. What??? So I then assumed it was to merely entertain. But after reading how she scammed and stole and she basically brags about it. I'm having a hard time relating or let alone enjoying a book about a woman who grew up upper middle class, is now one of the wealthiest women in the world, and basically has never had much of a moral compass. This is what I've taken away from the first 5 chapters. Pass.
  
  Unfortunately, it did not come with a paid return label and the shipping would cost almost as much as the book. Lesson learned.
• I mean, ugh... I hate writing this in the face of so much fanfare, but felt like I needed to get some frustration off my chest.
  
  The good
  + This book is incredibly compelling. I finished the entire thing on one 4-hour flight on 3 hours of sleep. She (or her ghostwriter) is a great storyteller.
  + It truly is inspiring to read about a type of success not born of traditional privilege or ambition - I hope this book gets a lot of other young women out there to kick-start their dreams.
  + I really appreciate that she didn't focus on gender at all - this wasn't a "girl power!" book so much as it was an "entrepreneur power!" book written by a girl.
  
  The less good
  + I had never heard of Nasty Gal before I picked this up. Never mind that I'm a fashion-oriented mid-20s female - I'll assume this is on me. Sophia seems to think her company is God's gift to Earth - I found her completely presumptuous both in her evaluation of her own brand equity, and hyperbolic in her descriptions of Nasty Gal as a "huge, explosive success" (I live and work in Silicon Valley, where nonprofits get $20M in funding annually easy and companies grow from 1 to 350 employees in two years - let's have a sense of scale here.)
  + There was a consistent thread of put-downs and humblebrags in here, which happen to be two stylistic choices I absolutely deplore. Sophia claims to have done poorly in school because of the rigid system and been fired from jobs because she didn't care enough to try (essentially excusing herself from blame). She disses investors/VC culture, MySpace (the original foundation for her business), "boring" people with 9-to-5s, eBay, and several poor unnamed employees of hers. I get it - she loves herself. I just pray to God that no young woman reading this ever thinks it's ok to be this self-righteous.
  + She never once thanks anyone. She had some nice words about some coworkers, but she never acknowledges the support her family gave her even as she was essentially a parenting failure, never thanks her customers for driving awareness of her brand, never admits that some of her colleagues are at least part of the reason behind her company's success.
  + She plays the victim so much but never acknowledges any real failures (and now, hiring someone you thought was right for the role and then having to fire them isn't a failure - it's a rhetorical device used to assert your authority in this book.) She whines about "catty" retailers and petty competitors and never once steps down from her high horse to admit to the very real failures that affect every new business (like screwing up orders, dissatisfied customers, mis-spending capital, etc.)
  
  In sum, I hope I never get stuck in an elevator with Sophia, but I'm glad my flight went by quickly.
• I read this book after reading She Means Business by Carrie Green (which is great!). Girlboss felt like I was being lectured by someone who thinks she is higher or above everyone else. She then goes on to give advice about getting jobs and doing the dirty work to work your way up the ladder - is this not the TOTAL OPPOSITE of a Girlboss??? Can't even keep reading....
• I've had a paperback copy of #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso on my book shelf for about a year or more.
  
  I started reading it once before thinking it would be a self help book teaching me how to run my business and giving me pointers. Boy was I wrong. 
  
  At the time, it wasn't the book I was looking for so I put it back on my shelf and moved on. 
  
  Then a few weeks ago I found the show Girl Boss on Netflix and ended up binge watching it for 2 days straight. I was curious when I noticed it say it was "loosely" based on the book. So I pulled it back off my shelf and started reading it again. 
  
  First, when they said "loosely," they meant it. 
  
  Having said that I have to tell you, I ended up binge reading the book in the same manner as the show. I looked forward to nothing more in the morning then waking up, pouring my morning coffee, and diving into #GIRLBOSS while the house was still quiet. 
  
  Sophia tells the story of how she built her business from an eBay store she opened while she was bored, then grew it into the mega business it is today. The fact that she did it all using street smarts, her own intuition, and little to no educational background in business is amazing.
  
  Her vibrant, take no crap attitude comes through this book in full force. Add a little humor and it made for a very fun read. It is easy to see how she got where she is so fast. 
  
  Although this is not a book on how you can start your own business, she gives some pretty solid advice on things to do, and not to do in the business world, through her own experiences. The excerpts from other business women were also a nice touch.
  
  I will definitely be incorporating some of what I learned here into running my own business. It was the right kick in the butt I needed to keep me going. If that's what your looking for and you love a person with some attitude in her personality, this might be the book for you.

• Taschen books are always such eye candy, couple the Taschen name with 1000 designer chairs and you have a strong visual reference guide to over 100 years of design of chairs.
  
  Although 1000 chairs seems like a lot you breeze through the decades and it leaves you wanting more. This book is lacking if you are an aficionado of any one era as there are more specialized books that could detail that era better but as an overall history this book hits the mark.

Debtors’ prisons might sound like something out of a Dickens novel, but what most Americans do not realize is that they are alive and well in a new and startling form. Today more than 20 percent of the prison population is incarcerated for financial reasons such as failing to pay a fine. • Good book
• This book is no joke! I've been weight training for years and not seen results like this. This difference in my pics is 5 months, however I was very satisfied with my appearance after only 3 months. Follow the plan and see the results! I get asked all the time how I got so ripped! I have given the name for this book out many times and am actually ordering it again as I leant it out and it wasn't returned.
• I have an old edition of this book, so I got this new edition as a Christmas gift. This book helped me lose 35 lbs about 9-10 years ago. I am noticing a lot of typos in this edition, though. For example, it will say to refer to the charts on a specific page & the charts aren't even on that page. So it is a little confusing trying to figure out which charts they are talking about. Apparently the editing was overlooked? I guess I will have to refer to my old version on certain things to make sure I don't follow the wrong eating plans. Other than that, great book.
• This book worked wonders for me! I lost 20 pounds of fat, gained hard lean muscle, and maintained it while eating like a horse and enjoying a normal life! I still have my first version of the book when it came out as well as the latest version, but I can't possibly give up the first edition book that saved me 10 years ago!
• I just finished reading and will be starting the program next week. I'm trying hard to keep an open mind and be happy with my purchase but the large number of editing errors is really starting to bother me. How can I trust what they are saying if they cant even properly use formatting and punctuation. Also, the website they reference in the book isn't available any more. I also wish there were printables of the workouts or journals because I don't want to write in this book. Making photocopies of all the pages is tedious and annoying, but its better than lugging a giant book to the gym ever day!
  
  Also, the photo shows the Fourth Edition, but I received the Platinum Edition. And it was covered in a perfumed oil of some sort that took some effort to clean off.
  
  I will report back after I complete a few weeks of the training program.
• Lost 18 lbs in 6 months. This program is very user friendly and contains the nutritional guidelines and workout programs to help anyone succeed. I also love their Facebook page.
• JAMES - is the most amazing trainer and fitness guru around. I have been using this bible for over 18 years. He and his bible have never let me down ) worth every penny!!!

• I love it. The other review hated it, because it was full of cuss words. That is kind of the point.
  I look forward to using it.
  I got it to take to my dad's cancer treatments. He has stage 4 stomach cancer and I sit with him, at the chemo treatments. This is exactly what I need. Because I can't tell well meaning to people who send me prayers, what I really want to say.
  But I can color a bunch of F***s and C***s
• Love love love it.... the cover alone sets it apart from the rest. Just a higher quality coloring book. And the vulgarity.. well that's the point! The hard part is deciding what page to color first! I will be specifically looking to purchase more coloring books from this brand.
• I bought this for myself and then bought multiple copies to give as gifts to friends and coworkers and EVERYONE I gave it to loved it!! I found people going around the office showing off the book to others while laughing hysterically. Sure, some of the "words" or "sayings" are a little immature or juvenile, but they're funny! And it's a great stress relief. We can't all walk around saying what we think or calling others names, but it feels good to delightfully color in a beautifully drawn mandala or doodle with those types of words prominently displayed. If no one gets hurt, what's the big deal? I definitely recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor.
• This definitely helps with my anxiety as well as my anger, as coloring is very calming, yet I can take out my anger by coloring a design that has a curse word or insult in it. I’ve also noticed that it contains some British slang terms and insults as well, which makes it more fun! I also love that the pages are NOT double sided, so once you finish coloring you could even cut out the page and frame it to hang in your house!
• I received this coloring book as a gift to keep me busy during chemo. Very very funny. So appropriate for chemo and although it does have "bad words" it cracks me up. I love this book because the artistry is wonderful and keep my mind busy and relaxed.
• This one went straight into the trash. I've had several adult sweary type coloring books in the past, but this one literally went right into the trash can after I received it and flipped through. Poor printing on several pages and a lot of the words honestly weren't funny/felt like a stretch to be crass just for the sake of it. Definitely check photos before putting this one in your cart to make sure it's actually what you want to gift or keep.
• After buying a book which used quality paper, the low quality of paper used by this maker's books simply couldn't be ignored. It changes the tone of the color, amount of bleeding, end result is usually...blech...compared to others, etc.
  Yet, I still like this series & have used my small allowance to buy some. But I've become a quality snob. LOL
  So I scan these pages (after I use a blade to cut them out - none of these books are perforated) & print them out on quality art paper I bought seperately.
  PITA, but I had already bought the book, so... The results are 100% better than using the original pages.
  I will be paying more attention to the descriptions, reviews, & questions on any future books I purchase. It may be "fun" to color pages with curse words in the phrase, but if the paper is just a level above newspaper, it's a waste of ink & time.
• I'm glad I, finally, ordered this!
  
  It's a proper, soft cover, book (not one of those 4 page magazines they 'call' a book).
  Oodles of intricate pictures to color, but nothing that requires any technique. I had forgotten how Zen it was, to just color; no thought- just fill in the spaces... excuse me, I am off to color; in my blanket fort.
